INSPIRE Conference 2011

Start:

End:

Details:

The theme of this year's INSPIRE Conference is "INSPIREd by 2020 - Contributing to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth"
In 2010, the European Union renewed its commitment to 'knowledge-based' sustainable development by putting forward three mutually reinforcing priorities in the Europe 2020 Strategy1:

Smart growth: developing an economy based on knowledge and innovation;

Sustainable growth: promoting a more resource efficient, greener and more competitive economy;

Inclusive growth: fostering a high-employment economy delivering social and territorial cohesion.

The University of Edinburgh will present a workshop, "Shibboleth Federations and Secure SDI: Outcome and Demonstrations from the OGC Web Service Shibboleth Interoperability Experiment."

This edition of the INSPIRE Conference offers an opportunity to explore INSPIRE's contribution to Europe's 2020 strategic goals and to root its further implementation and development in the EU 2020 follow-up programmes.

Event:

Vespucci Initiative 2012 10th Summer Institute - "Interoperability 360"

Start:
Sunday, 2012-06-03
End:
Friday, 2012-06-08
Details:

Interoperability 360 intends to discuss the theoretical and practical aspects of the interoperability of systems, services, data, organisations, people, and disciplines from a holistic perspective. Traditional notions of syntactic and semantic interoperability offer only a limited view of what is needed in practice, and do not prepare you for applications in the real world. To fill this gap, the week draws on real-life experience in a global setting, contrasting an approach backed by legislation (INSPIRE), with one based on voluntary contributions (the Global Earth Observatons System of Systems or GEOSS).

The conference will be held in Florence (Firenze), Italy.

Local Information and Travel:

Airport

The closest international airport is Logan International Airport (BOS)

Parking

Parking in Cambridge and Boston can be expensive and hard to find (Marriott Parking is $22 per day for self-park).  Whenever possible, park your car at the hotel, and use public transportation to get to the MIT campus. If you must drive to the campus, on- and off-street parking is available for a fee, but most public parking is not very close to the center of the MIT campus

Public Transportation (the MBTA, known as "the T")

The closest subway station to campus is Kendall Square on the Red Line, you may also want to consider going to Central Square (also on the Red Line) or taking the #1 or CT1 bus across the Charles River from Back Bay, depending on where you are coming from and your destination on campus.

Public transportation fares and schedules may be found at the MBTA website. If you are coming to MIT for an extended visit, you may want to consider buying a stored value CharlieCard or an unlimited use weekly or monthly pass.
