USGS Interoperability Assessment

The rigorous testing of USGS web services performed in the Interoperability Assessment Project helped us identify and correct shortcomings of our implementation of OGC standards, and highlighted areas in which to improve the user experience with our web services.  As a result of the project, our users can include the improved USGS services more easily in their decisions making and operational activities.

Web Feature Service DWG

Group Description:

The WFS DWG provides a forum to

  1. Discuss requirements for the WFS and Filter specifications
  2. Develop Change Request Proposals for the WFS and Filter specs
  3. Provide a forum for the presentation, discussion, and evaluation of profiles of the WFS specification and
  4. Provide a forum for presentations on uses and implementations of the WFS and Filter specifications in the marketplace.

Web Map Service

The OpenGIS® Web Map Service Interface Standard (WMS) provides a simple HTTP interface for requesting geo-registered map images from one or more distributed geospatial databases. A WMS request defines the geographic layer(s) and area of interest to be processed. The response to the request is one or more geo-registered map images (returned as JPEG, PNG, etc) that can be displayed in a browser application. The interface also supports the ability to specify whether the returned images should be transparent so that layers from multiple servers can be combined or not.
