The First-Ever OGC Plugfest
The First-Ever OGC Plugfest was held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 in Southampton, UK in connection with the 50th OGC Technical Committee Meeting. This plugfest concentrated on testing interoperability between clients and servers that are intended to comply with Web Map Service 1.1.1 and Web Feature Service 1.0. Only OGC members who are actually testing interoperability wiere able to attend this event. Please read on to learn how to participate in future OGC Plugfests.

OGC is involved in GEOSS in several ways:
The OGC "Geo-interface for Atmosphere, Land, Earth, and Ocean netCDF" (GALEON) Interoperability Experiment supports open access to atmospheric and oceanographic modeling and simulation outputs.
GALEON Phase I completed in 2007. GALEON Phase II started shortly after. However, Phase II is currently dormant awaiting the completion of the revision to OGC Web Coverage Service (version 2). Once WCS 2.0 work is completed, GALEON Phase II will restart.
Following is a summary of the Phase 1 activity.
The Web Mapping Testbed Phase 2 (WMT-2) expanded on work done in WMT-1. It resulted in more federal data coming on-line using WMT protocols and laid a foundation for OGC Pilot Projects that tested and demonstrated the new capabilities. WMT-2 resulted in improvements to GetFeatureInfo, GetMap, and GetCapabilities, the basic elements of the Web Map Server Interface Specification. It also resulted in a proposed service interface specification for accepting multi-dimensional query requests and responding with portrayals (symbolized graphics) of the results (with associated legends).
The Web Mapping Testbed Phase 1 (WMT-1) was OGC's first Interoperability Initiative, and it marks an important milestone in the history of geoprocessing. WMT-1 yielded interface prototypes vendors used to enable users to immediately overlay and operate on views of thematic map data from different online sources (subject to limitations of the data), regardless of which vendor's software was serving that data. These prototypes ultimately resulted in the OpenGIS Web Map Server Specification.
The OpenLS Testbed was sponsored by Hutchison 3G UK, Sun Microsystems, In-Q-Tel, ESRI with SignalSoft, and Oracle with Webraska.
This testbed yielded Interoperability Program Reports (IPRs) that have become approved OpenGIS® Specifications in support of interoperable Location Based Services to be made available through mobile terminals. The OpenLS Testbed ended with a successful multi-vendor, specification-based mobile demonstration of these interfaces in action.
