The 82nd OGC TC/PC Meetings are hosted by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) of Republic of Korea and organized by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) from October 7(Sun) to 12(Fri), 2012 in Seoul, Korea.  For regular TC/PC meetings, OGC members need to complete registrations on the OGC Portal site.  All side event registrations are available on the local meeting information page (www.ogcseoultcpc.info).
 
In addition to OGC working group meetings, there will be various activities as follows:
 

  • OGC Standards Tutorials (Sunday, October 7): Educational sessions and lessons for practical uses of OGC standards. (http://www.ogcseoultcpc.info/program/sub_01.php?m=11)
  • IndoorGML workshop will aid those who develop Indoor positioning technologies to utilize IndoorGML to its full potential. Those who are developing applications and services based on the indoor position of a user or object are also invited to present their requirements. ( http://stem.cs.pusan.ac.kr/indoorGMLWorkshop/ )
  • Public Session (Monday, October 8): Vice Minister of MLTM and officers will welcome OGC members.  Keynote presenters will give lessons to the participants about their activities and visions related to geospatial standards.  Public Session combines with Opening Plenary.   • Welcoming Reception (Monday, October 8): A good opportunity to meet OGC members and local geo professionals.
  • Smart Geospatial Expo 2012 (Wednesday, October 10 through 12): Korea’s annual, largest geospatial exhibition and convention.  There is a participating OGC member section.  (http://smartgeoexpo.kr/static/eng)
  • Official Dinner (Wednesday, October 10): Enjoy beautiful Seoul and dinner cruise on the Han River.

      From Brussels Airport, taxis are available the journey normally takes around 30 minutes from the airport to the Hilton Brussels City hotel (approximately 60 euros).         Shuttle Bus

        There will be an OGC Shuttle bus that will depart the Hilton Brussels City at 07h00 each morning (arrive Eurocontrol at 07h45).  The shuttle will depart Eurocontrol at 18h15 each evening (arrive at Hilton Brussels City at 19h00).

        EUROCONTROL headquarters are located near the Brussels airport, with easy access from most Belgian highways leading into the capital.

        If you are coming by public transportation, the nearest bus stops are:

        • Mercure Center - rue de la Fusée 98: bus 272, 5-minute walk to EUROCONTROL (0.6 km)
        • Maes: bus 80, 10-minute walk to EUROCONTROL (0.8 km)
        • NATO: busses 12, 21 and 65, 20-minute walk to EUROCONTROL (1.4 km)

        Coming by train

        It is also possible to get to our headqarters using one of the two train stations in the vicinity - however, you should keep in mind that you will have to walk for a while.

        Coming by plane

        The nearest airport is Brussels National Airport in Zaventem. It is a 5-minute taxi journey to our headquarters. You can also take bus 12 and stop at NATO.
           
        EUROCONTROL has negotiated special fares with the Unitax airport taxi company for its visitors and special guests. The set price for 2011 for the journey from EUROCONTROL to Zaventem Airport or vice versa, is EUR 15. Payment is possible by credit card or in cash.

        Passengers arriving at Brussels Airport are picked up in front of the main entrance of the Sheraton Hotel (departures level).

        There are some nicer hotels in downtown, where is about 30 minutes C-Train ride ($3 CAD per ride) to campus.

        If you are interested in visiting the Banff National Park:      

        The Banff National Park is about 80 minutes drive from Calgary (map) and it’s a very scenic ride. Renting a car would be a good idea. Just follow 16th Avenue North heading west and you will be surrounded by the Canadian Rockies in about 30 minutes.

        Pre-TC or Post-TC Trip Suggestions

        September is a great time to visit the Canadian Rockies as it’s not too cold and not too hot. Below are some suggestions:

        Hiking: Kananaskis Provincial Park (50 minutes from Calgary) Banff National Park (80 minutes from Calgary). Below are some suggestions.

        • Barrier Lake in the Kananaskis Provincial Park is a nice and easy hike. And it’s close to Calgary.
        • Consolation Lakes is an easy hike (60 m elevation gain) near Moraine Lake.
        • Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass is a great one day hike (7 hours, 732 m elevation gain).

        Hot Springs (Banff Upper Hot Springs)

        Scenic Drive (One Day: Calgary-Banff-Moraine Lake-Lake Louise-Columbia Icefields and drive back)
