Wayland, Mass., April 26, 2010. The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2010 will bring more than 8,000 geoscientists from all over the world to Vienna, Austria, 2-7 May 2010. More than 25% of member organizations in the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) represent the geosciences or the academic community, and thus OGC standards that support management and sharing of scientific data will be a topic of interest at the Assembly.
Wayland, Mass., October 28, 2008 - Standards developed by the members of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) play a key role in OneGeology (www.onegeology.org ), a global project to produce the first digital geological map of the world. OneGeology is supported by UNESCO and six other international umbrella bodies. It is the flagship project for the UN International Year of Planet Earth 2008.
12 October 2010. The US Federal Geographic Data Committee (http://www.fgdc.gov) (FGDC) Steering Committee has officially endorsed a group of OGC standards along with other standards developed externally to FGDC. These standards play an important role in enabling interoperability as part of the Geospatial Platform for GeoOneStop, place-based initiatives, and other potential future programs of the FGDC.
