New Members Join Open GIS Consortium in November and December, 1996

Wayland, Massachusetts, USA January 2, 1997 - The Open GIS Consortium, Inc. (OGC) announced today that in November and December, 1996, the following organizations became members of the consortium: Microsoft Corporation (Redmond, WA) joined as a Principal Member of the consortium. Principal Members have a seat on OGC's Management Committee, which oversees the OGC Technical Committee and plans cooperative industry development programs. Autodesk, Inc., (Sausalito, CA) already a member, increased their level of participation to Principal Member.

OGC Solicits Requests for Quotation in Support of a Military Pilot Project

February 8, 2001, Atlanta, Georgia: The Open GIS Consortium, Inc. (OGC) today released a Request for Quotation that launches a Military Pilot Project (MPP) designed to promote collaborative development and testing of interoperable, Web-based geospatial and intelligence information infrastructures. Sponsored by the US Army Engineering and Development Center (ERDC), this pilot project will draw on technology developers and integrators to demonstrate the power of OGC specifications and interoperable products in support of national, multinational and coalition defense operations.

Twenty-one Participants Join Sponsors to Kick off OGC Web Services 1.2 Initiative

(OGC) kicked off the second threadset of its Web Services Initiative Phase 1 (OWS-1.2) recently with a four day meeting in Herndon, Virginia. OWS is long-term project that aims to advance interoperable geospatial and imagery web services technology, support development of a multi-vendor portable demonstration, and feed requirements and recommendations into OGC's OpenGIS Specification process.

OGC and IPE Announce Classes in Geospatial Interoperability

(OGC) and the Institute for Professional Education (IPE) are now available for registration. IPE and OGC agreed to collaborate in the development and delivery of GIS related education for advancement of interoperability favorable to the interests of their members and the public, and to raise awareness of and interest in the organizations' missions.
