Domain Working Groups (DWG or WG) provide a forum for discussion of key interoperability requirements and issues, discussion and review of implementation specifications, and presentations on key technology areas relevant to solving geospatial interoperability issues.
Special Interest Groups (SIG) provide a forum for the discussion of business and technology interoperability requirements for given geographic region or information community.

The OGC Planning Committee is granted authority to operate by the OGC Bylaws. Principal Membership is provided for organizations that wish to participate in the planning and management of the Consortium's technology development process.
Standards Working Groups (SWG) have specific charter of working on a candidate standard prior to approval as an OGC standard or on making revisions to an existing OGC standard.
A Subcommittee is a standing group (organizationally, a subgroup of the Technical Committee or the Planning Committee) of individuals composed of members of the TC or PC and Invited Guests, with a mission to provide recommendations to the TC or PC in some general area. A Subcommittee does not generate a Standard nor do they work on a Standard.
