Critical Infrastructure Protection Initiative, Phase 2

The U.S. Census Bureau sponsored the second phase of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Initiative, CIPI-2, an OGC pilot project. Census used the OGC's rapid-prototyping process to develop two prototype systems: an online system to update governmental unit boundary information for existing incorporated places, and an OpenGIS® Specification conformant server solution for Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER®) data. The specifications implemented in the prototype were WMS, WFS and GML.

Critical Infrastructure Protection Initiative, Phase 1.2

The Critical Infrastructure Protection Initiative Phase 1, Requirement Set 2 (CIPI-1.2) is a pilot project sponsored by the US Census Bureau that leverages the success of previous and ongoing OGC initiatives to improve interoperability across communities that need to collaborate to detect, prevent, plan for, respond to, and recover from natural and human threats to telecommunications, water resources, oil and gas, government, transportation, emergency response, electric power and health services infrastructure.

Critical Infrastructure Protection Initiative, Phase 1.1

Agencies from all levels of government, on both sides of the U.S./Canada border, came together in the CIPI-1.1 pilot project to explore emergency management data sharing.

The sponsors of CIPI-1.1 were: Autodesk, BAE SYSTEMS, Intergraph, Lockheed Martin, the Federal Emergency Management (FEMA), the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), GeoConnections/Natural Resources Canada, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and others.

Conformance & Interoperability Test & Evaluation, Phase 1

As customers in the geospatial industry prepare to modernize their systems based on OGC Web Services, they will require proof of products' conformance to OpenGIS® Specifications in order to achieve interoperability. Validating conformance to an OpenGIS® Specification means verifying that a software product has implemented the specification correctly. Civil Works Technology Insertion, Phase 1

Technology Insertion Project. The CTI Project, sponsored by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), integrated multiple map servers, including nodes at the Corps' Mississippi Valley Division and the New Orleans District Office. Insertion Projects focus on expanding an organization’s interoperability capacity by laying the groundwork for open implementations.

North Rhein Westphalia Pilot

The North Rhein Westphalia Pilot Project (NRWPP) was part of a state-wide initiative of the German state of North Rhine Westphalia to establish solutions for network integrated geographic information systems, serving state, city and county offices as parts of the general geographic data infrastructure.

Object Domain Modeling Support (ODMS) Initiative

The ODMS Initiative developed a domain model for utilities as a vehicle to achieve semantic interoperability within and across information communities. The model shows how users within the utilities arena and those in related disciplines such as engineering and public safety can more easily share geographic data, even if they choose to name features differently. The OGC worked on the initiative with the CADD/GIS Center for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (CADD/GIS Center). A UML model for Utilities was developed and delivered and is available from the CADD/GIS Center.
