OGC seeks public comment on CF-netCDF 3.0 encoding using the GML Coverage Application Schema Standard

4 March 2015 - The membership of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC CF-netCDF 3.0 encoding using the GML Coverage Application Schema Standard.

This new addition to the netCDF suite of standards provides additional ways to serve complex multi-dimensional CF-netCDF data for use in geographic information systems (GIS) or other geospatial systems not capable of handling complex CF-netCDF data.

OGC requests comment on charter for group developing a terrain modeling standard

27 February 2015. Members of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) request comments on the draft charter for an OGC Common DataBase Standards Working Group. This Standards Working Group (SWG) is being formed to develop and propose one or more candidate standards for a common terrain database model and encoding useful for both runtime synthetic environment generation and terrain database repositories for modeling and simulation.

OGC adopts Moving Feature Encoding standard

17 February 2015 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) membership has approved the OGC Moving Feature Encoding Model and Encoding as an official OGC standard. This standard defines an abstract model for encoding moving feature data compliant with ISO 19141:2008 Schema for moving features, and, based on the abstract model, it also includes an XML encoding in the form of an OGC Geography Markup Language (GML) application schema, and a simple CSV (comma-separated value) encoding format.

OGC and OMA to Exhibit Together at Mobile World Congress 2015

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) today announced they will cooperate at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, March 2-5, 2015 in order to promote a unified message to the mobile community. Exhibiting in Hall 8.1, stand K52, members of OMA and the OGC will demonstrate how products and services enabled by standards developed at the two organizations have helped their companies achieve market success.

Carl Reed to retire as OGC's CTO and Executive Director Standards Program

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announces that on January 31 Carl Reed retired from his position as CTO and Executive Director Standards Program at the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). Scott Simmons will assume the role of Executive Director, Standards Program and George Percivall, OGC Chief Engineer, will assume the role of CTO.

GEO Announces Call for Participation in 8th GEOSS Pilot with OGC Leadership

30 January 2015 – The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) has announced a Call for Participation (CFP) in the 8th phase of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP-8). AIP-8 aims to increase the use of GEOSS resources by end-users. An end-user might be, for example, a farmer in a developing nation whose cell phone app accesses an online service that supplies planting advice and market forecasts based on sophisticated processing of data acquired by satellites, local Internet-connected sensors, and social networks.
