Dr. Luis Bermudez is the Executive Director of the OGC’s Innovation Program, that provides a collaborative agile process bringing together geospatial technology users and developers for advancing new technologies and standards.
A member of OGC staff since 2010, Dr. Bermudez has led the Compliance Program and OGC training and educational activities worldwide that have helped advance the development and use of international standards to promote geospatial interoperability. During this time he has also served as an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Professional Studies in Geographic Information Systems program at the University of Maryland. He has developed educational modules on open standards and interoperability for both OGC workshops and university programs.
Dr. Bermudez has more than 20 years of experience in the information and technology industry including geospatial, sensor web, semantic web and legal information. Before OGC, he was the Technical Manager at Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) and Technical Lead of the Marine Metadata Interoperability project at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). In both positions he advanced technologies to support sharing and improvement of numerical models and the integration of ocean observing systems around the world. He has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Informatics from Drexel University.
