Ying-Jung Chen, Ph.D

Director, Collaborative Solutions and Innovation Program
California, USA

About Me:

Dr. Ying-Jung Chen is the project director leading and managing initiatives within the OGC Collaborative Solutions and Innovation Program. She has a contagious passion for collaboration and innovation, aiming to make geospatial information Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) through the power of internationally open standards and collaboration. Prior to joining OGC, Dr. Ying-Jung Chen was an applied scientist at a geospatial analytical startup, focused on crop health/growth and wildfire risk forecasting. In addition, she has extensive experience working within agriculture and financial firms, and serves on the program committee for climate change AI workshops.

Before her industry career, Ying-Jung was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Washington, Seattle. Her projects focused on developing open-source tools and reproducible workflows for data integration on the ground and in space to enable open science. Dr. Ying-Jung Chen has a Ph.D. and MA in Geography/Environmental Science Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing in GIS/remote sensing, spatial-temporal forecasting, water resources management, hydrological modeling, and climate change impacts on watersheds. She also holds a B.A. in Geography from National Taiwan Normal University, where she studied landslide distribution in upstream watersheds for a major reservoir in northern Taiwan. She has over 10 years of experience using spatial-temporal EO/geospatial datasets in water, ecology, agriculture, climate variability, and energy fields. Finally, she is also keen to incorporate state-of-the-art AI techniques with sustainable environmental and disaster resilience issues under the impacts of climate change.
