About the award
The Lifetime Achievement award is a silver medallion presented by the Board of Directors of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) to an individual who has made exemplary contributions to the OGC's consensus standards process.
At the July 2007 OGC meetings in Paris, France, Charles Roswell received an OGC Lifetime Achievement Award, the first ever granted by the OGC.
Charles Roswell was an active participant in the OGC from the Consortium’s beginning in 1994, and before that he had already made important contributions, nationally and internationally, in the area of geospatial standards. During his long tenure in the OGC Technical Committee and Planning Committee, he was an active and highly regarded technical contributor, an effective advocate and a valuable liaison with other standards organizations. The OGC Board of Directors chose to create this new award to give to him before he retired after a long career in geospatial standards.
OGC Lifetime Achievement Awards may be awarded to others in the future, but it is not anticipated that this will be done annually.
