Register to attend the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Technical Committee's Smart Grid Ad Hoc Meeting, "The Smart Grid's Geospatial Requirements"! As Mark Reichardt, President and CEO of the OGC, explains in "Space, Time, and the Smart Grid’s Neighboring Worlds ", Smart Grid web services will need to communicate information about location, proximity, political and ownership boundaries, weather-affected regions and more. Those web services will communicate through open standard interfaces and encodings IF THE SMART GRID STANDARDS COMMUNITY MAKES IT SO! If your company or agency is involved in the Smart Grid Standards effort, we encourage you to meet with other members of the Smart Grid standards community to explore the Smart Grid's geospatial issues in a special Smart Grid Ad Hoc meeting in the Olympus Mons (CL4) facility at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California from 1400-1700 on Wednesday afternoon, December 9, 2009. Agenda for the Smart Grid Ad Hoc meeting: 1. Areas of convergence between current Smart Grid standards and OGC standards: Common Information Model and the contexts for geospatial information and processing, Wide Area Situational Awareness, cyber-seurity, requirements for Sensor Webs and other topics that are defined or inferred in Release 1 of the NIST Framework and Roadmap for Smart Grid Interoperability Standards . 2. OGC involvement and participation: formation of a Domain Working Group and orchestration of collaborative work by OGC and other SDO's (IEEE, IETF, OASIS, etc). 3. Next Steps and Actions. We invite you to also attend the OGC Technical Committee's Evening Reception and dinner from 1830-2100 at the world famous Computer History Museum in Mountain View.  The OGC holds its Technical Committee Meetings five times per year at locations around the world, and the Evening Receptions are always memorable events!
