May 24-25, 2012: An old cloister in the historical heart of Ghent (Belgium) formed the décor of the first workshop on the development of an international standard for 4D archaeological data. The workshop was organized by the Department of Geography of Ghent University in collaboration with the CReSTIC of the University of Reims. The goal of the workshop was to reflect on and discuss the possibility of developing a comprehensive international standard which would facilitate the exchange and modeling of archaeological data and enable full-fledged 3D spatio-temporal analyses in archaeology.

In recent weeks I have been travelling a lot and today I want to share with you some of the experiences I had during my visit to the Croatian National SDI Conference in Zagreb and the final symposium of the EU funded OBSERVE project – both with a focus on Eastern Europe and the Balkan countries.

Recently, the OGC convened its 82nd Technical Committee and Planning Committee meetings in Seoul, South Korea.  These meetings were hosted by an OGC member, the Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs, and were held in conjunction with the annual Smart Geospatial Expo at the magnificent COEX center.  This merger of events afforded OGC members from over 71 organizations worldwide opportunities to participate in OGC committee and working group meetings, as well as to interact with hundreds of attendees of the Smart Geospatial Expo. This was also an opportunity for OGC members to visit the Expo to see firsthand the array of geospatial information products, services and implementations being advanced by the Korean private and public sectors.
